VAULT400 Called On to Protect Distributor

Berjé, a New Jersey-based distributor of aromatic chemicals, has selected United Computer Group's online backup solution, VAULT400, to protect the data residing in its IBM i ERP and WMS systems, UCG announced last week.

Berjé is a global distributor of essential oils and aromatic chemicals to companies in the food, fragrance, and pharmaceutical industries. The company maintains more than 3,000 items in inventory in three distribution centers, located in New Jersey, Illinois, and California.

In support of Berjé's unique business are IBM i applications from VAI, including a manufacturing-focused ERP system installed in 1997 and a WMS package installed in 2005. These IBM i applications are critical to helping Berjé maintain efficiency in warehousing operations, as well as serving its base of large, multi-national customers.  See complete article

Zenith Infotech Barred from Selling Cloud Assets

I read a disturbing article about Zenith Infotech in Channelnomics by Larry Walsh.

Zenith Infotech, an India company with its U.S. operations headquartered in Warrendale, Penn., is embroiled in a court battle over its $83 million foreign currency convertible bond default last September. Plaintiffs lead by Bank of New York Mellon are seeking full compensation for the bonds, alleging Zenith Infotech is purposely hiding liquid and physical assets to avoid paying the debt.  Read complete article.

How Can This Happen? California warns of lost parent-child data

When I read the news about California officials warning that personal information about parents and children in child support system was missing....I was a little more than shocked.  Here is the real kicker...The contractors are IBM and Iron Mountain.  They said "could not locate several specialized computer storage devices."  Apparently, stored data was being transferred from an IBM facility in the state of Colorado to California, and some devices holding information were missing upon arrival.  Information unaccounted for included people's names, addresses, social security numbers, and places of employment.

Whenever your data is being transferred via a physical device, you are at risk.  We have a local company in my city that drives around town picking up tapes.  I often wonder if people realize how vulnerable they are using such an approach for backup and offsite storage.    This is a good reminder to revisit your offsite storage approach.  The staff at VAULT400 will be happy to discuss options even those that do not include their offering.
